Oracle E-Business Suite 11.5.10 - Vision Instance

This post contains details of a publicly accessible Oracle Application 11.5.10 Vision instance.

When I met Karen Brownfield at an Atlanta Oracle User Group  meeting two weeks ago she mentioned that Solution Beacon  (who currently host a freely accessible 11.5.8 and 11.5.9 Vision Instance) would shortly be hosting a publicly accessible 11.5.10 instance. I noticed over the weekend that this instance is now available. I think providing this type of facility for public access is extremely cool. All you have to do is fill out the free registration and you are allocated a user name and password.

I’ve noticed there’s quite a few new modules and a slightly new look and I hope to be writing on these over the next couple of months. You can access this instance here and you will need to run through the installation of the new version of Jinitiator (1.3.1.18). I would advise you to de-install any existing Jinitiator versions you have. I performed the install on my new IBM X40 laptop (which came with my new job) and since there were no prior versions of Jinitiator I haven’t run into any issues. Also remember that if you have any pop up blocking software installed, you should allow pop ups for the Vision Instance URL as the Jinitiator software install will not start with popup blocking on the URL.

Well done to Solution Beacon for providing this instance and I hope readers enjoy accessing this system and taking a look at what’s new.

This post contains a link to a site where you can download a comprehensive range of Oracle Documentation.

  • Database
  • Development Tools
  • Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence
  • On Demand
  • System Management
  • Application Server
  • Oracle Collaboration Suite

Of interest to Oracle Apps users will be the online documentation CD which can be downloaded for each release of Oracle E-Business Suite from R11 to R11.5.9

Oracle Financials R11.5.9 at Stanford University

Recently I came across the Oracle Financials site at Stanford University. This post contains a review of the various sections of the site.

The Oracle Financials Site at Stanford University is an excellent resource for anyone interested in learning and reading about Oracle Financials implementations. Being a University, the site gives you a good idea of how Oracle E-Business Suite can be implemented in a Higher Education Institute. It’s also interesting to note that Stanford has recently upgraded to the latest version of Oracle E-Business Suite, namely R11.5.9. You can read about Stanfords Upgrade from 11.5.8 to 11.5.9 here. The Oracle Financials System site is categorised in to the following sections: -

  • Learning Centre
  • Chart of Accounts
  • According to this page: -
    The Chart of Accounts is the underlying structure for organizing financial information at Stanford. Stanford adopted a new Chart of Accounts along with the new Oracle Financials system in 2003. News and general information about the Chart of Accounts and associated issues may be found here.
    In the news item "What is the Chart of Accounts" the University explains: -
    The Chart of Accounts is the set of codes used to classify and record financial transactions in meaningful ways. These codes enable Stanford to: -
    • identify specific “pots” of money;
    • specify what that money may be used for; and
    • record the transactions related to that money

    By fulfilling the above functions, the Chart of Accounts also: -

    • facilitates financial reporting;
    • provides a framework for understanding the financial results of Stanford’s operations; and
    • controls how financial transactions and balances are collected and stored in the Oracle system

    Under this news item you will also find the Universities Chart of Accounts Segment Structure as well as mapping tables and spreadsheets which outline how the legacy Chart of Accounts translates to the new structure.

Solution Beacon, an Oracle Partner in the United States has recently made two 11i Vision instances available on the Internet. 11i or Oracle E-Business Suite is Oracle’s ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software. The Vision instance contains sample data and transactions for a variety of modules and associated responsibilities or user types. The Vision system can quite often be used for training or to give you a preview of what the Oracle’s systems capabilities are.

If you go to http://www.solutionbeacon.com/tools_vision.htm you will find a publicly accessible 11.5.9 and 11.5.8 instance. Simply register and you will be given a log-in to access these instances.
