Oracle E-Business Suite 11.5.10 - Vision Instance
This post contains details of a publicly accessible Oracle Application 11.5.10 Vision instance.
When I met Karen Brownfield at an Atlanta Oracle User Group meeting two weeks ago she mentioned that Solution Beacon (who currently host a freely accessible 11.5.8 and 11.5.9 Vision Instance) would shortly be hosting a publicly accessible 11.5.10 instance. I noticed over the weekend that this instance is now available. I think providing this type of facility for public access is extremely cool. All you have to do is fill out the free registration and you are allocated a user name and password.
I’ve noticed there’s quite a few new modules and a slightly new look and I hope to be writing on these over the next couple of months. You can access this instance here and you will need to run through the installation of the new version of Jinitiator (22.214.171.124). I would advise you to de-install any existing Jinitiator versions you have. I performed the install on my new IBM X40 laptop (which came with my new job) and since there were no prior versions of Jinitiator I haven’t run into any issues. Also remember that if you have any pop up blocking software installed, you should allow pop ups for the Vision Instance URL as the Jinitiator software install will not start with popup blocking on the URL.
Well done to Solution Beacon for providing this instance and I hope readers enjoy accessing this system and taking a look at what’s new.

How to clear the Oracle Jinitiator Cache
This post talks about Jinitiator cache and the need to clear it on a periodic basis.
Today I was reminded about the necessity to clear your Jinitiator cache on a periodic basis. I was creating a worksheet in Oracle PSB and having selected the option to “Budget by Position”, when I tried to specify the data extract in the next field I received a rather bizarre error message - field does not understand operation. A quick check on Metalink revealed doc id. 248973.999 which suggested that I clear the Jinitiator cache. I checked the cache folder and found that it had a about 45MB worth of files - obviously it hadn’t been cleared in some time!!
My understanding of the Jinitiator cache is that it’s pretty much like the windows temp directory in that it needs to be cleared periodically. I thought it would be useful to highlight how to clear the cache files as well as remind users that this activity should be performed on a periodic basis as it may lead to obscure errors. I’ve also created a new category for Jinitiator for future posts specifically related to Jinitiator.
The first way to clear the Jinitiator cache is to simply delete all the files found in the cache directory. The cache directory is normally found on c:\program files\oracle\jinitiator 1.x.x\jcache. The second alternative is via the control panel, the steps are as follows: -
- Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel
- Double click on ‘JInitiator 1.x.x’
- Select Cache TAB from ‘JInitiator Control Panel’
- Click the Clear JAR Cache Button.
