I just wanted to share few of my experiences implementing Dashboard for one of our client.
We have been working for a major client on the implementation of their Business Information cockpit based ( Dashboard ).
We have used Oralce Discoverer 10g as the tool and are publishing the information on Oracle Portal 10g.
The database is 11.5.9.
The tool discoverer 10g is definately improvised and user friendly version than its earlier desktop version.
But with every new version comes the added feature of confusion. There are very confusing things like the data aggregation and Formulaes which makes difficult for the data population.
Regarding the Oracle Portal 10g, the data has been captured in the form of portlets and its not possible make any run time modifications for the existing published data ( which is unusually the user requirement many a times...! ). The Portlets refreshing schedule is another thing to be takes care of since there can also be a deadlock ( thanks to the requirement for high capacity server ). And the moost worse one ( mind you ).. is the password stuff.
My overall comment is, the Portal is a very innovative and sensitive tool and can be very very helpful for the business development and client satisfaction. But Oracle should try and improvise it since there is least margin for the users for their customizations on the same.
