Recently I was part of an architecture review project and some interesting questions came out of that

The client has Peoplesoft as their CRM application, Oracle for Financials and a third party Warehouse and Order management system

They want to go for a unified Oracle approach, as well as some new modules like Oracle Depot Repair and iStore. They also want to bring in Oracle Retail.

The integration work seems mind boggling.

They are on 11.5.9 and do not want to upgrade to 11.5.10 as they have over 200 customisations in place. An upgrade is a lot of headache for them, which they want to avoid.

How would Fusion be able to help them if at all ? Are they better off upgrading to Fusion level and using the SOA and other features to integrate ? Or would it be better to just handbuild the integration bits and pieces? Are adaptors for Peoplesoft CRM and Oracle available already ? How about integration of Financials with Oracle Retail?

It would be nice to hear the thoughts of the resident experts on this blog site around such issues

Phewwwww..Sounds severly knotty. May be Michael will have the optimum solution for you when he gets
back from San Fransisco this October; after all the project fusion hype.

Its such a pity that most customers always wait to sink deep into the customization muddle, before they realise what implementation
consultants initially harped on at the beginning of the project; Avoid customizations or worst case minimize them, and focus on re-engineering your business processes. The client we are supporting is also feeling the pinch of over customization of the application right now. The difficulty and cost of upgrading, and the not only that but the headache of PATCHING, as well. Was reading Michaels blog on the Critical Patch Update Oracle sent out this month, and thinking what work there is going to be for us, cause of all the Impact Analysis that has to be done for the patch releases on custom objects, and redevelopment of custom objects affected; so to speak. Oracle developers are surely in business for a while!
