Oracle EBS Release 11.5.10.2 Vision Instance
I noticed that Solution Beacon now has a Vision Instance of the latest release before R12, namely 11.5.10.2
You can now access any of these three Vision Instances:
Release 11.5.10.2 (a510vis5)
(11.5.10.2 Installation from Media Pack/9.2.0.7. ATG RUP#3 applied. Family Pack applied current except for HR and BIS)
Output listing from patchsets.sh for 11.5.10.2 from 10/15/2006
Release 11.5.10 (a510vis1)
(11.5.10.0 Installation from Media Pack/9.2.0.5. No ATG RUPs applied. No additional Consolidated Updates or Family Pack patches applied)
Output listing from patchsets.sh for 11.5.10.0 from 3/27/06
Release 11.5.9 (a159vis2)
(11.5.9.0 Installation from Media Pack/9.2.0.3. No ATG RUPs applied. No additional Consolidated Updates or Family Pack patches applied)
Output listing from patchsets.sh for 11.5.9 from 3/27/06
Although these environments are all publicly accessible I noticed that when registering for the 11.5.10.2 instance I had to supply them with a CSI (Customer Support Identifier). According to the registration form:-
*NEW - 12/21/2006 - In order for Solution Beacon to be able to continue to provide Vision environments for public use, Oracle now requires us to ask for a Customer Support Identifier (CSI) number which can be obtained through Oracle Support.
Hopefully they’ll have an R12 Vision Instance ready to look at shortly!!

Oracle 11i Installation, Architecture, Administration and Maintenance
Recently I was asked by a reader whether I could provide them with a diagram of the architecture of 11i10. Here’s some excellent presentations you can download and take a look at if you want to understand more about the architecture of Oracle Applications E-Business Suite (EBS) R11i.
I’ve always been impressed by the quality and content of information produced in presentations delivered by SolutionBeacon. One of the first presentations I came across that provided a very good look under the hood of 11i was one entitled “Care and Feeding of 11i” by John Stouffer.
The most recent versions of these presentations that I could find were delivered by Randy Giefer at the NorCal OAUG 2005 Training Day. I’ve linked to the presentations and also quoted their abstracts below. You should also check out the NorCalOAUG Presentations Archive where there are many other useful presentations you can download.
Introduction to Release 11i Part 1 of 2: Installation & Architecture
Abstract
In the 1st of a 2 part presentation, get a “real world” perspective as well as tips and techniques to install and understand the architecture of the complex Oracle Applications environment delivered with Release 11i, including Release 11.5.10. Release 11i is the biggest and most complex applications release ever! There have been ten 11i releases with major changes to tools and technology stack. Each release addresses bug fixes and has added new module functionality along with three specific Oracle environments that must be installed for Release 11i – database, applications and web. All environments require differing levels of support but each has to be maintained to fully utilize and make the most of the Release 11i Applications. We will discuss the underlying architectures and approaches to architecture and installation that make ongoing support more manageable for the Apps DBA.

Oracle E-Business Suite 11.5.10 - Vision Instance
This post contains details of a publicly accessible Oracle Application 11.5.10 Vision instance.
When I met Karen Brownfield at an Atlanta Oracle User Group meeting two weeks ago she mentioned that Solution Beacon (who currently host a freely accessible 11.5.8 and 11.5.9 Vision Instance) would shortly be hosting a publicly accessible 11.5.10 instance. I noticed over the weekend that this instance is now available. I think providing this type of facility for public access is extremely cool. All you have to do is fill out the free registration and you are allocated a user name and password.
I’ve noticed there’s quite a few new modules and a slightly new look and I hope to be writing on these over the next couple of months. You can access this instance here and you will need to run through the installation of the new version of Jinitiator (1.3.1.18). I would advise you to de-install any existing Jinitiator versions you have. I performed the install on my new IBM X40 laptop (which came with my new job) and since there were no prior versions of Jinitiator I haven’t run into any issues. Also remember that if you have any pop up blocking software installed, you should allow pop ups for the Vision Instance URL as the Jinitiator software install will not start with popup blocking on the URL.
Well done to Solution Beacon for providing this instance and I hope readers enjoy accessing this system and taking a look at what’s new.
